The effect of family-centered empowerment on the quality of life of children with hemophilia

Introduction: The factors influencing the disease in children with hemophilia are quality of life. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of family-centered empowerment on quality of life in children with hemophilia in Ahvaz city in 1397. ​Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 50 children with hemophilia who were referred to the hematologic clinic of Baqaee Hospital in Ahvaz were selected by random block method. The experimental group received 9 training sessions based on a family-centered empowerment model based on four stages of perceived threat, problem-solving, educational participation and evaluation by the researcher with the presence of primary caregivers and children with hemophilia. The control group received only a routine care program. At the beginning and one month after the intervention, both groups completed the individual information and quality of life questionnaire for hemophilia children. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics (independent t-test, paired t-test, fisher exact test and chi-square test) in SPSSV.22 software. ​Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference in the overall score of children's quality of life (P = 0.444) before the intervention between the two groups, while after the implementation of the empowerment program, a significant difference was found in the overall quality of life scor ( P=0/030 ), and then the family (P = 0.019) and then perceived support (P = 0.11) were observed between the two groups. Conclusion: family-centered empowerment can be used  to improve the quality of life of hemophilic patients by nurses.
